Save by adjusting your electricity consumption

Cheap Spot Electricity is an electricity contract where the price changes every 15 minutes according to the Nord Pool power exchange price in the Finnish market area. With a spot electricity contract, the price of electricity is always up to date and competitively determined.

By shifting your electricity use to the cheapest quarter-hours, you can save on your electricity bill. When the price is low, you benefit immediately. On the flip side, there is also the risk of rising prices and occasional sharp price spikes. If you are not deterred by a little risk, could be the right choice for you. And as the old wisdom goes, spot electricity usually turns out cheaper in the long run than a fixed-price electricity contract.

The facts

  • How the price of the Cheap Quarter-hour sopt electricity contract is formed:
    • Spot electricity quarter-hour price / kWh

    • Margin / kWh

    • Fixed monthly basic fee for the electricity contract

  • The spot electricity price is determined on the Nord Pool power exchange according to supply and demand. Each quarter-hour of the day has its own price, called the spot price. The price can vary greatly between hours and days.
    • You can track the spot electricity prices, for example, with Fingrid’s app. The hourly prices for the following day are published at around 3 p.m. each day. This allows you to plan your electricity use in advance – avoiding price spikes and taking advantage of the cheapest quarter-hour rates.
  • The contract is valid until further notice and can be terminated or switched to another electricity contract with 14 days’ notice.
