What should I know about an electricity contract when moving?

Are you about to move and start a new chapter in a new home? Great! We’ve gathered everything you need to know about electricity contracts when moving on this page.

If arranging your electricity contract slipped your mind and the moving truck is already waiting outside, please contact our customer service. Please note that an express connection fee will be charged in accordance with our service fee list.

Is the contract transferable, or do I need a new one?

Cheap Energy's electricity contract is always tied to a specific address, so it does not automatically move with you. When your address changes, it’s important to remember two things: to terminate your current contract and to make a new contract for your new address.

By doing this, you ensure that you only pay for your own electricity usage and not for that of the new occupant. However, your contract will end once the new resident of the apartment signs a contract for the same address.

Make a new contract easily online

You can conveniently sign a new electricity contract through our website whenever it suits you. We supply electricity throughout Finland, and you can make a contract up to 90 days in advance.

From our selection, you can choose the affordable electricity contract that suits you best—whether you are looking for a fixed-term, fixed-price contract or a spot-priced contract that follows market rates.

Fixed-term contract and moving

Moving is an exceptional circumstance that allows you to terminate a fixed-term contract even if the contract period is still ongoing. Generally, a fixed-term agreement binds both parties until the end of the term, but moving is an exception to this rule.

If you wish to continue with a fixed-term contract at your new address, you can choose a current and affordable option from our selection.

Moving checklist

  • Make a contract for your new address. We recommend signing a new electricity contract as soon as your moving date is confirmed. You can make the contract up to 90 days in advance.
  • Terminate your old contract. Your current contract will end no earlier than five (5) days after notice. Make sure to cancel it in time so you don’t end up paying for the next resident’s electricity usage.
  • What if I forget to terminate the contract? If you don’t cancel your old contract, it will remain valid and you’ll be responsible for paying the bills until the new resident signs their own contract for the address. So take care of the cancellation as soon as you know your moving date—it’s the easiest way to avoid unnecessary costs.
